So you’re sat at your computer and it’s time to look and evaluate how your OnlyFans account has been doing but you dread the thought of having to log in, and crunch numbers, and the overshadowing thought of having to brainstorm new ideas begin to make you gag because… well frankly, you don’t like having to worry about this additional work on top of what you’re already managing.

You figure this would be better suited for a group who had a knack for handling this much information and coming up with possibilities for you to gloss over.

If you could find and hire a team like that would see yourself being the big boss and could even, make your life slightly easier and slightly less shameful.

Now the only thing is to find this special group to crunch your numbers so you can get to sleep at night. Sorry mom.

Dumpster Diving Data

Who are these mad people who rummage through data like a crackhead rummaging through your trash in hopes to find anything that’s going to help them score some…well crack?

Look no further than Data Analyst. Creative name, again I know but Linda listen. Data Analyst is professionals who retrieve, organize, and analyzes information from various sources to help an organization achieve business goals.

They often use logic, statistical techniques, and computer programming to turn numbers into information that an organization can use to improve workflow and business processes. So if you ever wondered why your job strangely and suddenly came up with more tasks for you to do at work, yeah, it’s safe to assume these guys were the culprit.

An important goal of the analysis is to distinguish between what data is important and what data should be given less weight. They do this by using data analysis to produce accessible graph charts, tables, and reports.

This is information that’s exciting for them but boring to the average person who wants to upload a twerk video online. In any organization, data analysts are also responsible for data quality and preparing reports for internal and external stakeholders.

You can picture them being the boogeymen you would hide from when you’re having a bad third quarter and you don’t want to hear about how much your company is failing at it.

They’re a real “in your facts, not your feelings” type of people.

Data Shakes

Do you want to know who in their right mind uses these data hounds? Get ready for this tall order, retail banks use data extensively to understand how their customers use their accounts and to help identify security risks. They’re also leveraging big data in location intelligence to determine how to manage their branch locations and set location-based performance goals most efficiently.

Farmers, not being the first people on your list that would use data analysis, are now using them for agriculture and they are posed to grow only more important as predicting the weather and squeezing maximum productivity out of the land. This wouldn’t be so much of a problem if Earth wasn’t trying to heal itself due to the need of feeding a growing population of humans.

Real estate firms and this is no surprise here, leverage big data for better property analysis, better trend analysis, and a better understanding of their customers and markets.

Data has long been crucial for doctors seeking to figure out, based on analysis of a larger number of data points collected from many patients, examples are findings in which blood pressure range is normal or how much sugar you should consume each day.

Now the healthcare industry is using data analytics to answer bigger, more complex questions. Like seeing how much they could charge you for treatment, I say you because insurance companies ensure they don’t pay all of the cost.

Data Diagnosis

These data-horny-driven people, how important are they? Well, they can help an organization understand risk and take preventive measures if the organization chooses to listen.

As a result, data analysis helps companies make informed decisions, create a more effective marketing strategy, improve customer experience, and streamline operations, and that’s among many other things.

All of these are excuses used to squeeze that sweet work juice from employees in the name of performing what’s called “improvements”.

Implementing data analysis into business models means companies can help reduce costs by identifying more efficient ways of doing business and by storing large amounts of data.

Side effects of reducing cost are but are not limited to, getting rid of your favorite coffee machine in the office, moving Taco Tuesday to Wednesday, lack of proper working equipment or equipment, and can even cause job loss via company downsizing.

So yeah, these data fiends have a massive play and a mass amount of uses. Again, everything is data and it’s everywhere, so these people are always turned on.

Only Data Abound Fans

You may be thinking “why would I hire someone to do all of this, I get aroused at the thought of crunching numbers.  I could give this a shot. Do I need a degree?”

Here’s a degree not needed inbound however, you are going to need a structured and formal approach to learning the necessary skills. The best way to do so is through a project-based course. Data analysis is also not required to have advanced coding skills.

Instead, they should have experience using analytics software, data visualization software, and data management programs. Data analysts are required to have a strong grounding in mathematics to succeed.

Again, if you’re an advent reader of mine, you already know Z-Daddy is out. Computers do the math for me, that’s how it’s always been. Reviewing and if necessary, improving your math skills may be needed before learning to become a data analyst.

The field of data science is fast-paced, demanding, and challenging. Learning to perform your responsibilities correctly can take some time too and that can add to your stress.

However, keep in mind, you’re not a machine and that working is important but it’s not worth sacrificing your health, then again, no job is.

Have you ever sat at your computer, stared into the dark abyss so long that within it you begin to see the reflection of your reflection, and after a few more moments, thought to yourself” I have no idea what I’m doing”?

If you said “no” and this is because well, you don’t have any experience writing a program, but you are curious about being a programmer, then oh boy. Fun ahead.

To those of you who said “yes,” I would like to extend a warm welcome to you into the “Programmer’s Block Club” as this is just as common as writer’s block. It’s infuriating when you watch a show or a movie with a programmer just coding away line after line from the start.

Most of your time is spent staring into the void of nothingness before anything happens. Sounds bleak? It is.

However, once you identify your target, this tends to become a rewarding experience because the toughest part about programming is figuring out what you want it to do in the first place.

Now, since programming is a large scope, there are too many languages to cover. For sake of all that’s holy (or probably unholy), we are going to use Java as a tool for our possible programmer… which is you.

So, as per usual, we are going to be going over what Java is, who and what uses it, how our world is shaped by it, and finally whether can you get in the field without a put-you-in-debt degree.

Not Your StarBizzy

Looking at the logo of Java, you wouldn’t be wrong in your thought of coffee. I mean it does look like a cup of coffee and well caffeine is the sweet brown cocaine we jones for to start our day aside from whatever else your vise is.

What’s mine, you ask? Good question, it’s Jameson Black Barrel. Simple and classy, I mean coffee isn’t coffee unless you add some of that good ole “daddy thinking juice”.

What is Java?

Java (not to be confused with JavaScript) is a high-level, class-based, object-oriented programming language that is designed to have as few implementation dependencies as possible. It is a general-purpose programming language intended to let programmers write once and run anywhere (WORA) meaning that compiled Java code can run on all platforms that support Java without the need to recompile.

What does all this mean?

This breaks down to, being readable by humans (high-level), creating a data type defined by the user (class-based), and classes of data types linked with the functions with which they’re associated (object-oriented). Compile meaning translation to machine language for use.

a boy and his teddy bear

Photo by Anete Lusina, please support @pexel.com

Now, let’s say, you want to run a simple program. We’ll call it build-a-bear-that-won’t-terrify-your-children, the box where you place the bear is the environment in which you develop the bear, the material stuffed within the bear is your data type, the name (class) of your bear we’ll say is “Grizzly” which can be used for the creation of another bear down the line, and the voice of said bear is a function.

Putting all these together gives you a bear that your children will cherish until they become of age. Where in which they’ll forget the bear and tell you to shove it because they’re at the phase where they no longer want to be seen with you anymore, ah… that good ole teen angst.

A fun little thing to note is Java’s original name was “Oak”. Could you imagine Starbucks grounding trees in your coffee?

What uses Java, well the real question is what does not use Java? Most (if not all) laptops, data centers, gaming consoles, and cell phones use this programming language.

Nine times out of ten, your place of employment (if you still have one, covid did a number I know) should’ve updated their operating system to a later version instead of something installed in the 90s.

They label it “legacy” to sound as if it’s supposed to get better with age when in reality is code for “we are old as f***, and we don’t like change”. Yes, said mentioned place runs Java.

Being able to WORA (and no not WORM, that’s a virus) makes Java a programming language many developers use to create applications.

Have you ever gone into a Target while wandering around and heard a god-awful chime go off?

Java runs in an application for that sound to be produced. The sound is loud, good luck to any parent to grab something quickly without waking up their sleeping newborn. One ear of that sound and it’s GG (Good Game) parents… you lose.

Having the ability to write simple code helps alleviate programmers from struggling with arithmetic errors and lessens memory constraints.

So, this means a lot of programmers that would be standing on top of a tall building staring into the void waiting for a strong gust of wind can take a step back because fixing bugs is easier to deal with and not have to worry as much about space.

Banks and other financial institutions have Java running on their systems for safety and productivity.

Mobile applications that are created using Java include some popular ones like Twitter, Netflix, and Spotify to name a few.

It’s hard to go somewhere that isn’t using this language.

So, you’re probably thinking programming is something that you may find interesting, and I might take my hand at learning Java.

Well, here are some things to note.

Traditionally, places of employment are going to require you have a degree in computer science. You can beat this out by attending meetups and linking up with people who are going to be your peers.

Build a portfolio of small programs you’ve created by yourself or with others. Working with others is better because it shows you can operate within a team.

A Java developer’s yearly salary can range from $57k – $140k depending on your residing state and level of experience.

What you are going to need are a GitHub account, Stack Overflow, and a lot of patience. Companies will bring you in for a tech interview and before the interview, will have you take a programming assignment; therefore, you should have an account and frequently visit Hacker Rank as this will help you become a better programmer.

Programming is trial and error.

Owls Up There with Fed Banking

Quick note: if you’re viewing this via email, come to the site for better viewing. Enjoy!

To be or not to be…poor. That is the question. WAIT, WHY IS THAT EVEN A QUESTION!?
Photo by Andrea Piacquadio, please support by following @pexel.com

Let’s start this off by asking a simple question and this is something that many of you can relate to. How many of you enjoy having a bank account full of money? It’s safe to assume that almost everyone reading this script enjoys having a decent sum of money in their bank account.

I know that there may have been a very, very, very small few that might have said, “Money isn’t real, the real value of you isn’t in the form of numbers.” To them, I ask, if that is true then why is it that every time I get a bill, I spiral into a panic attack? Explain that one, however, you’re not wrong, that’s not the point being made here, so hush.

Suppose like in many situations, you check your account before going to sleep to confirm you have a decent amount, but when waking up you get an alert sounding like the accountant bit from South Park talking about your bank account, “Annnd, it’s gone. Your money, it’s all gone.” Let me script for you how this may have happened.

Halloween Gone Mobile

So, the numbers in your bank account are gone with the wind and you’re probably wondering how you got to this junction. Well, let me inform you that you may have been infected with a virus called SOVA.

SOVA is a virus designed for mobile phones, as you can predict this is mainly for Android phones, but iPhone users don’t think you’re safe. Your sweet saucy phone jack is just not on the menu for now.

SOVA, in case you were wondering means owl in Russian, the name was given because owls are nocturnal birds of prey, they’re silent, and like a slow jam from the 80s, they stalk and capture their prey. As you could have already guessed, this is Michael Myers of the animal kingdom, and it very well could be on your mobile device.

I don’t stalk my prey; they just don’t see me coming. Stop making a big woot…oh I saw what you did there.

Night-time Owls, Day-time Collection

Outside of SOVA being given a cute name by the threat actor, the first version made its first appearance on the underground markets back in September of 2021. For those who don’t know what the underground markets are, they’re the “dark web” or may also be called the “dark net”. And before you ask, no, there is not an underground store in either of those areas.

SOVA was shown that it not only had the ability to collect usernames, passwords, and other information, but it also has an interesting function that will be brought up later. Trust me, you’re not going to like this. If you suffer from having trust issues with people, you’re really going to have it with your phone after reading this script.

No, no, no, annnnnnd now it’s gone. All of my money, it’s all gone.

Intruder at Hand

Right now, you’re probably looking at your phone and thinking “I don’t trust you.” And you would be right since your phone is the main attack vector for this malware/virus/trojan. That’s right, viruses have pronouns too.

SOVA is distributed by a smishing attack, which is another form of phishing where the attacker is trying to bait you into clicking on a link for further malicious intent via text messaging.

Once the fake application is installed on the phone, it then sends the list of all applications installed on your device back to the command-and-control server (C2C), this is done with the intent for the attacker to then choose which app to target.

The attacker fires back the malware that can perform collecting keystrokes, steal cookies, intercept multi-factor authentication tokens, copy and paste, and add fake overlays for a range of apps.

But are you ready to have some major trust issues? This malware can perform actions like clicking, swiping, and pretty much interacting the same way as if you were using it. This is all done via the accessibility service, guessing this is the last time you’ll trust a handicap sign.

All of our accounts are wiped clean, if only we kept reading Scriptingthewhy.

Panic, Pause, and Simple Steps

While this seems like the sky is falling and you’re never going to dance again because empty words have no rhythm. Though it’s easy to pretend, knowing this information will not make you a fool. Always be very careful when you download from a friend as this could be potential harm that you have been given.

A few other ways of preventing from downloading such malware are to make sure you check all of the details of the application such as reviews and how often the application is downloaded. Make sure you download from only trusted sources like the manufacturer’s store or from the app store.

Other practices are making sure your OS (Operating System), applications, and anti-virus software are up to date. Most of the ways to keep your devices and information safe are to follow simple best practices but most of the time the combination of “It’s our app and we want it now” and reading takes too much effort that exposes us to possible threats.

This is my third time this month getting a spa treatment, and it’s all thanks to those cursed scripts. Bless you Z-Daddy.
